After a brief hiatus to accommodate the building of the casino and resort, as well as the usual winter break, Hawthorne will be back in the saddle for a full schedule of thoroughbred racing in 2021. Let’s celebrate as horse racing returns!
In September of 2020, the Illinois Racing Board granted 50 racing dates to the historic Stickney track from March 6th thru April 25th, and from October 1st thru December 31st. At the request of track management and the approval of the ITHA, Sunday’s will replace Thursdays during the fall meet in order benefit the ongoing construction of the casino and sportsbook.
While we will all enjoy the new amenities and entertainment options of the casino and resort, let’s be sure to support the engine that has driven this South Side staple since 1891…horse racing.
